
Stan is the founder and previous managing partner of Willis Spangler Starling. Stan graduated from Capital Law School in 1991. His undergraduate degree was obtained from Ohio Northern University where he played football and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. In 1987, Stan graduated from ONU with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Stan worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as an Engineering Intern. He subsequently took the role of Assistant Geometrics Engineer in the Bureau of Location and Design. After a year of working full-time while attending law school at night, he decided to go all-in with school and transferred to the day program at Capital. Stan clerked in the ODOT section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office while attending Capital.
After law school, Stan took a position at CJ Mahan Construction Company. That position entailed preparing claims for delays, changed circumstances, acceleration and other such issues related to complex construction projects. It also required dealing with OSHA regulations and compliance issues. Stan left that job after about a year and founded what is now Willis Spangler Starling on August 1, 1992. Most of his early years were spent practicing Construction Law and Business Law. As a solo practitioner, He gained a wide range of experience in multiple areas of the law.
Stan acquired a lot of experience in those years negotiating and litigating complex contract issues among multiple parties where the stakes were high. Since that time, Stan has additionally practiced Worker’s Compensation Law, Personal Injury, Employment Law and a wide range of other matters both transactional and litigated. All the while advising businesses of nearly every kind as well as building and managing Willis Spangler Starling.
Stan’s diverse experience over the last 30 plus years across multiple areas of practice and managing a thriving Law Firm has equipped him with valuable knowledge that he can bring to his mediation practice. Stan possesses the ideal disposition for a mediator: professionalism, a comforting presence, superior listening skills, a multi-perspective approach, and a sense of humor. Stan will work to bring about a fair lasting resolution while at the same time avoiding potentially time-consuming and costly legal battles.
